Summary
The Emergency Medical Technician course prepares the EMT student to provide prehospital assessment and care for patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Areas of study include an introduction to emergency medical services systems, roles and responsibilities of EMTs, anatomy and physiology, medical emergencies, trauma, and special considerations for working in the prehospital setting.. The curriculum for the EMT educational program shall be the most current release of the United States Department of Transportation (US DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) National Education Standards.
Student/Course prerequisites:
A) 17 years of age on or before the official end date of the course;
B) High school diploma or high school equivalent; or successful completion of an entrance exam assessing basic reading comprehension skills at a minimum of the eleventh grade level.
